Teak (Tectona grandis) is a tropical hardwood tree species categorized in the family Lamiaceae. Wood texture is hard and ring-porous. Teak’s high oil content, high elasticity and tight grain make it particularly perfect for outdoor area with unpredictable weather changes. It is used as a material in the making of patio furniture and porch decks. It is also utilized for chopping boards, indoor flooring, shelves and as a coating for indoor furnishings. It is termite resistant and immune to other insects. Though teaks are easily worked, edged tools can become seriously dull because of the presence of silica in the wood. Over time teaks can be washed into a silvery-grey finish, especially by direct sunlight exposure.
